What is the Cars for Cancer Lottery?
The Mater Cars for
Cancer Lottery was launched in October 2004, as an
initiative of the Mater Foundation to raise vital funds
for Cancer research and treatment. This is a limited
lottery with only 15,000 tickets available for each of
the six Cars for Cancer lotteries per year.
The funds raised through the lottery assist the Mater Medical Research Institute
(MMRI), the Mater Prostate Cancer Research Centre, Multiple Myeloma, Breast
Cancer and the Queensland Cord Blood Bank. The Queensland Cord Blood Bank at the
Mater has recently recorded the storage figure of over 5,000 cord blood units
which will aid in the life-saving treatment of many young cancer patients.
Each year, more than 500 Australian children will be diagnosed with cancer.
Sadly, around one third of these children will not survive. Leukaemia is the
most common form of childhood cancer and whilst many children with leukaemia can
be cured, not all respond well to treatment. When other treatments fail, a cord
blood transplant may be life-saving.
Purchase a ticket in the Mater Cars for Cancer Lottery and you will be
contributing to the vital work being done at the Queensland Cord Blood Bank at
the Mater.
The latest Mater Cars for Cancer Lottery has taken the HSV ClubSport R8 and the
FPV GT-P off the showroom floor and into the fast lane. These two muscle cars
are the cream of the super car crop but only one can be crowned the ultimate
winner. Power, looks, handling – everything matters in this race and both sides
are rallying their best for the showdown of the century.
Earlier this year HSV announced that the ClubSport R8 would be fitted with the
new GM LS3 engine. The HSV LS3 engine has a capacity of 6.2 litres, producing
317kW of power at 6000rpm and 550NM of torque at 4600 rpm.
In true competitive fashion, the FPV has unleashed a new range of soldiers,
ready to do battle.
The latest FPV GT-P rumbles from an Australian developed Boss 302 engine with
5.4 litre capacity, producing 302kW of power and 540NM of torque.
Valued at $82,241, first prize is inclusive of on-road costs and third party
insurance.
